Polygons MasterCard Credentials Offer Users?
Users will now be able to use easy-to-remember names instead of their long wallet addresses, which will be linked to verified individuals. These nicknames and verification will be handled by Mercuryo, which will assign new nicknames to wallet addresses.

Polygons technology will issue a special soul-bound token that will confirm the wallet’s publicly verified owner and enable credential-based transactions on Polygon’s L2 chain. According to a MasterCard representative, Polygon was chosen because of its payment-ready infrastructure, fast network, and reliable system.
MasterCards Raj Dhamodharan, Executive VP of Blockchain and Digital Assets, said:
“Bringing the capabilities of Mercuryo and Polygon into our system makes digital assets more accessible and reinforces MasterCard’s commitment to providing secure, simple, and scalable blockchain experiences worldwide.”
Nevertheless, this positive news didn’t significantly impact the price of Polygon (POL). The altcoin dropped below $0.15. With the market’s bearish trend and the double-digit decline in POL’s price over the past week, it is now down 24% in monthly terms.

People Also Ask – MasterCard x Polygon:
What is the MasterCard x Polygon deal?
MasterCard has partnered with Polygon and Mercuryo to allow anyone to change their Polygon wallet to a simple username, like @john.pol. No more copying 42-character addresses; just send crypto to a human-readable name.
How do usernames work?
Once you verify your identity through Mercuryo, you get a custom alias that’s linked to your wallet. You can also get an optional soulbound token an NFT that doesn’t transfer and stays in your wallet forever, providing proof that you’ve been verified.
Why are soul-bound tokens special here?
You can sell normal NFTs, but soul-bound tokens cannot be withdrawn from your wallet. Therefore, the “verified” badge remains with you forever and cannot be counterfeited or traded.
Why was Polygon chosen?
Polygon Layer-2 is super fast and transaction costs are mere pennies, making it the perfect chain for everyday payments, which MasterCard wants to create a Cash app-like feel.
When will normal people be able to use it?
It’s currently live in Polygon self-custody wallets via Mercuryo-powered apps. More chains and a larger rollout will come in 2026.
